This image for me is touching since it was taken during his first loss. Facing a younger, bigger and hungrier opponent all the while Calderon was entering the final stages of his career. He would retire a few fight later.
This time the shot features Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz another local boxer who is a rising star in the sport. His fast and furious style is a fan favorite here and a steady winning streak increases his stock.
Hope you enjoyed the image.
So as a side project on this blog I want to start sharing some more personal work In between assigments. I’m also switching the language to English on future entries so to my Spanish reader I truly do apologize “Perdónenme”.
The first entry in this series is a bit of an oldie captured in 2010. It’s features an MMA fighter called Samuel. Back then he was a up and coming prospect, so I wanted to capture youth and intensity.
Since then the sport has fallen in popularity at least here in Puerto Rico and Samuel moved to the US looking for more opportunities. An all to familiar story in the current economic and political climate in the island.
Hope you enjoyed the picture and the short story behind it.
